ShortTerm Trading $105.14 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Shortterm trading refers to those trading strategies in stock market or futures market in which the time duration between entry and exit is within a range of few days to few weeks. There are two main school of thoughts: day trading and trend following. In finance, a trading strategy (see also trading system) is a predefined set of rules for making trading decisions. Traders, investment firms and fund managers use a trading strategy to help make wiser investment decisions and help eliminate the emotional aspect of trading. A trading strategy is governed by a set of rules that do not deviate. Emotional bias is eliminated because the systems operate within the parameters known by the trader. The parameters can be trusted based on historical analysis (backtesting) and real world market studies (forward testing), so that the trader can have confidence in the strategy and its operating characteristics. Excerpt: University of Greifswald – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Map of medieval universities in Europe. The foundation of the university took place at Saint Nicolas’ Cathedral. Up to this day, a number of university events take place in the Greifswald’s largest church, Dom St. Nikolai. The University of Greifswald was founded on October 17, 1456 with the approval of the Holy Roman Empire and the Pope. This was possible due to the great commitment of Greifswald’s lord mayor, Heinrich Rubenow, who was also to become the university’s first rector, with the support of Duke Wartislaw IX of Pomerania and Bishop Henning Iven of the local St Nicolas’ Cathedral. The founding took place in the local cathedral, which was later remodeled by Caspar David Friedrich and his brother and can still be visited today. The founding of the university was made possible by a decree that restricted teaching activity at the University of Rostock (founded 1419). Several professors left Rostock for Greifswald to continue their work there, where Heinrich Rubenow took the chance of establishing his own university. Originally, the university consisted of the four traditional divisions: Theology, Philosophy, Medicine and Law. In Germany, there are only three older universities by count of the years of existence: the University of Heidelberg (established 1386), the University of Leipzig (1409), and the University of Rostock (1419). International co-operation with other institutions of higher education in northern Europe existed already in the earliest years, sparked and accelerated by the transnational trading network Hanse. From 1456 until 1526, 476 Scandinavians were enrolled at Greifswald University and 22 faculty members as well as six rectors came from Scandinavia. This was … More: |

21 Dog Years $16.95 In 1998, when Amazon.com began to recruit employees, they gave temp agencies a simple directive: send us your freaks. Mike Daisey — slacker, onetime aesthetics major — fit the bill. His subsequent ascension, over the course of twenty-one dog years, from lowly temp to customer service representative to business development hustler is the stuff of both dreams and nightmares. Here, with lunatic precision, Daisey describes lightless cube farms in which book orders were scrawled on Post-its while technicians struggled to bring computers back online, as well as fourteen-hour days fueled by caffeine, fanaticism, and illicit day-trading from office desks made out of doors. You’ll meet Warren, the cowboy of customer service, capable of verbally hog-tying even the most abusive customer; Amazon employee #5, a computer gamer who spends at least six hours a day locked in his office killing goblins but is worth a cool $300 million; and Jean-Michele, Daisey’s girlfriend and sparring partner, who tries to keep him grounded, even as dot-com mania seduces them both. Punctuated by Daisey’s hysterically honest fictional missives to CEO Jeff Bezos, 21 Dog Years is an epic story of greed, self-deception, and heartbreak — a wickedly funny anthem to an era of bounteous stock options and boundless insanity. |

A Boardwalk Story $24.95 This first novel by J. Louis Yampolsky is a vivid coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of 1939 Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was the tenth year of the Great Depression, and, in Europe, war clouds were gathering. The novel is narrated by fifteen-year-old Jack Laurel, who lives with his parents and kid sister in a rented third-story apartment above a bakery on Ventnor Avenue. A number of story threads are woven throughout the novel, supported by a cast of a dozen memorable characters. There are youthful adventures, sexual awakenings, conflicts with neighborhood bullies, and interactions with boardwalk entertainers, prostitutes, and mobsters. In the main story, young Jack stumbles into trading cocoa futures with two men: Alan Goren, a reclusive mystic, and Benny James, a flamboyant boardwalk pitchman and mathematical savant. The boardwalk fortuneteller, Zena, plays a key role as her glimpses into the future seem to predict the movement of cocoa prices. A partnership forms to cash in on Benny’s gift for numbers and Zena’s powers-in spite of her warnings that she is not clairvoyant and nothing should be read into her musings.Atlantic City mob boss Bobo Trucci, intrigued by the commodities game and the uncanny track record of the partnership, muscles in. The partners make a big score by guessing right that there will be a war, and guessing right-almost to the day-that it will start in September. When they discover that their broker is a crook, running a “bucket shop” with no means of covering their investments, they must face the wrath of the boss, who wants his money-no excuses. There is a history lesson in these pages, as young Jack follows the news ofGermany’s march on Poland and the hapless drifting of European leaders in to war. There’s a virtual primer on commodities trading, as well as a lesson in how to operate a mob in a resort town. Here, too, is nostalgia for the days when Atlantic City was the Playground of the World, the |

A Nation Upon the Ocean Sea: Portugal’s Atlantic Diaspora and the Crisis of the Spanish Empire, 1492-1640 $106.45 With the opening of sea routes in the fifteenth century, groups of men and women left Portugal to establish themselves across the ports and cities of the Atlantic or Ocean sea. They were refugees and migrants, traders and mariners, Jews, Catholics, and the Marranos of mixed Judaic-Catholicculture. They formed a diasporic community known by contemporaries as the Portuguese Nation. By the early seventeenth century, this nation without a state had created a remarkable trading network that spanned the Atlantic, reached into the Indian Ocean and Asia, and generated millions of pesos thatwere used to bankroll the Spanish empire. A Nation Upon the Ocean Sea traces the story of the Portuguese Nation from its emergence in the late fifteenth century to its fragmentation in the middle of the seventeenth and situates it in relation to the parallel expansion and crisis of Spanish imperialdominion in the Atlantic. Against the backdrop of this relationship, the book reconstitutes the rich inner life of a community based on movement, maritime trade, and cultural hybridity. We are introduced to mariners and traders in such disparate places as Lima, Seville and Amsterdam, theirday-to-day interactions and understandings, their houses and domestic relations, their private reflections and public arguments. This finaly-textured account reveals how the Portuguese Nation created a cohesive and meaningful community despite the mobility and dispersion of its members; how itsforms of sociability fed into the development of robust transatlantic commercial networks; and how the day-to-day experience of trade was translated into the sphere of Spanish imperial politics of commercial reform basedon religious-ethnic toleration and the liberalization of trade. A microhistory, A Nation Upon the Ocean Sea contributes to our understanding of the broader histories of capitalism, empire, and diaspora in the early Atlantic. |

They were refugees and migrants, traders and mariners, Jews, Catholics, and the Marranos of mixed Judaic-Catholic culture. They formed a diasporic community known by contemporaries as the Portuguese Nation. By the early seventeenth century, this nation without a state had created a remarkable trading network that spanned the Atlantic, reached into the Indian Ocean and Asia, and generated millions of pesos that were used to bankroll the Spanish empire. A Nation Upon The Ocean Sea traces the story of the Portuguese Nation from its emergence in the late fifteenth century to its fragmentation in the middle of the seventeenth and situates it in relation to the parallel expansion and crisis of Spanish imperial dominion in the Atlantic. Against the backdrop of this relationship, the book reconstitutes the rich inner life of a community based on movement, maritime trade, and cultural hybridity. We are introduced to mariners and traders in such disparate places as Lima, Seville and Amsterdam, their day-to-day interactions and understandings, their houses and domestic relations, their private reflections and public arguments. This finely-textured account reveals how the Portuguese Nation created a cohesive and meaningful community despite the mobility and dispersion of its members; how its forms of sociability fed into the development of robust transatlantic commercial networks; and how the day-to-day experience of trade was translated into the sphere of Spanish imperial politics as merchants of the Portuguese Nation took up the pen to advocate a program of commercial reform based on religious-ethnic toleration and the liberalization of trade.A microhistory, A Nation Upon The Ocean Sea contributes to our understanding of the broader histories of capitalism, empire, and diaspora |

A Swamp Full of Dollars: Pipelines and Paramilitaries at Nigeria’s Oil Frontier $24.95 The largest U.S. trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, petroleum-rich Nigeria exports half its daily oil production to the United States. Like many African nations with natural resources coveted by the world’s superpowers, the country has been shaped by foreign investment and intervention, conflicts among hundreds of ethnic and religious groups, and greed. Polio has boomed along with petroleum, small villages face off with giant oil companies, and scooter drivers run their own ministates. The oil-rich Niger Delta region at the heart of it all is a trouble spot as hot as the local pepper soup.Blending vivid reportage, history, and investigative journalism, in A Swamp Full of Dollars journalist Michael Peel tells the story of this extraordinary country, which grows ever more wild and lawless by the day as its refined petroleum pumps through our cities. Through a host of colorful characters—from the Area Boy gangsters of Lagos to a corrupt state governor who stashed money in his London penthouse, from the militants in their swamp forest hideouts to oil company executives—Peel makes the connection between Western energy consumption and the breakdown of the Nigerian state, where the corruption of the haves is matched only by the determination and ingenuity of the have-nots. What has happened to Nigeria is a stark warning to the United States and other economic powers as they grow increasingly frantic in their search for new oil sources: unbridled plunder eventually rebounds on those who have done the taking.A Swamp Full of Dollars—shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award—shows that if the Arab world is the precarious eastern battle line in an intensifying world war for crude, then Nigeria has become the tumultuous western front. |

A Voyager Out: The Life of Mary Kingsley $0.99 Mary Kingsley began her life as a typically conventional Victorian woman. She would end up travelling to some of the most inhospitable regions of Africa and became one of the most celebrated travellers of the day. At the age of 31, she sailed on a cargo ship along the coast from Sierra Leone to Angola and then traveled inland from Guinea to Nigeria, studying African customs and beliefs. On her second journey, she ventured into remote parts of Gabon and the French Congo—the first European to do so. She encountered cannibals and crocodiles, studied the religious customs of the reclusive Fang tribe, climbed Mount Cameroon and explored the Ogowe River, trading cloth for ivory and rubber to fund her trip. She returned only once to Africa, during the Boer War, when she worked as a nurse and journalist. Tragically, she died of typhoid in 1900, only 38 years old. |

A Year in Provence $19.95 More than 40,000 listeners have enjoyed this story on cassette. Now anyone who’s ever dreamed of getting away from it all can enjoy the charms and challenges of A Year in Provence on CDPeter Mayle and his wife had been to Provence as tourists. They had dreamed of one day trading the long, gray winters and damp summers of England for the blue skies and sunshine of the coast of southern France. And then they made it happen. They moved into an old farmhouse at the foot of the Luberon mountains and embarked on a wonderful, if at times bewildering, new life. Among their experiences that first year: being inundated with builders and visitors, grappling with the native accent, taking part in goat races and supervising the planting of a new vineyard. Peter Mayle personally recounts the pleasures and frustrations of Provenal life–sharing in a way no one else can, the unique and endearing culture that is Provence. A Year in Provence was a New York Times bestseller for three years and won the British Book Awards’ Best Travel Book of the Year. |

A sermon on the occasion of the late storm. Preach’d in Spanish, before the Worshipful Society of Merchants trading to Spain. By the Reverend Ferdinand Fina. Rendred into English from the original Spanish $10.74 The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic — a debate that continues in the twenty-first century.++++The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title. A statistical look at day trading. $49.99 Day trading refers to the practice of buying and selling financial instruments within the same trading day such that all positions will be closed before the market closes for the day. In this thesis aspects of financial day-trading are considered from a statistical point of view. An objective function is defined and optimized. Rates of return are modeled, and a class of prediction-based day-trading investment strategies is defined. We investigate the theory and some practicalities of such strategies.;There are many studies based on day-of-week of effects, Bull/Bear market tendency, and some studies on week-of-month effects, but those studies are based on their separate effects. We study the effect of treating these variables together as possible determinants of the daily rate of return. To model these effects the technique of Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines (MARS) is used to capture the most important variables and their interactions. The results show how important it is to take the three variables together, and to take account of the market tendency.;Daily data, on the Exchange Traded Funds(ETFs) SPY (Standard & Poor’s 500 Depositary Receipt ticker symbol) and MDY (MidCap 400 Standard & Poor’s Depositary Receipt ticker symbol) were obtained; these data include the Open, High, Low, and Close for each clay. A simple coding system was used to determine the daily market tendency, Bull/Bear. Based on the results we built short-term trading strategies. The predicted rate of return is compared with the daily interest rate. If the predicted rate of return is higher, one invests on the next day, otherwise not. Rolling strategies were considered. Different periods of training and investment were considered. The results were generally somewhat favorable but can tend to fade when the investment period is continued too long. It can be important to determine when to stop and recalibrate. |

Chapters: Gold Mining in Alaska, Juneau Mining District, Yentna-Cache Creek Mining District, Nome Mining District, Fairbanks Mining District, Fairbanks Gold Rush, Ruby-poorman Mining District, Kobuk River Stampede. Excerpt: The Fairbanks Gold Rush was a gold rush that took place in Fairbanks, Alaska in the early 1900s. Fairbanks was a city largely built on Gold Rush fervor at the beginning of the 20th century. Discovery and exploration continue to thrive in and around modern-day Fairbanks. History Felix PedroFelix Pedro spent years searching for gold. He tried to find gold in the creeks and valleys of the Tanana Valley where Fairbanks would begin before he found the “American Klondike “. A trader named E.T. Barnette and his wife, Isabelle, were aboard the riverboat Lavelle Young in August 1901, trying to establish a trading post in the Tanana River . Low water conditions stopped the journey before Barnette could reach his destination. Co-owner of the Lavelle Young, Captain Charles Adams, turned into the Chena River , a tributary of the Tanana , instead. Shallow water stopped the Lavelle Young, and Adams refused to go further, so the Barnettes set up shop there. Barnette opened a trading post on the Chena River after Pedro had told him he had made some good “prospects.” On July 22, 1902, Pedro discovered gold north of Fairbanks in Interior Alaska which triggered the beginning of the Fairbanks Gold Rush, which set off a stampede that transformed the town. Barnette dispatched Jujyra Wada, a Japanese immigrant from Ehime on Shikoku Island , to Dawson City to spread the word that gold had been found in order for Barnette to create a market for his goods. Alpha Trading: Profitable Strategies That Remove Directional Risk $80 In the fall of 2008, the investment world received a rude reminder that forecasts and risk have more uncertainty than we would like to believe. From August 28 to the following March 9, the S&P 500 dropped 47%. Even more remarkable was that every investment was dragged down with it—hedge funds that were expected to offer diversification, commodity funds, real estate, art, and of course, every possible stock in nearly every country. When a market like this comes along, what is a trader to do? How to manage risk? Where are the hedges? The solution to all this risk and uncertainty, says world-renowned trading systems expert Perry Kaufman, is to take market positions that are not exposed to directional risk. Trading a spread or market neutral position takes price shocks out of the picture completely. In Alpha Trading, Kaufman shows how to make trading profits even when there are no market trends and price shocks rock the markets every day. His strategies, long shown to be profitable, are called statistical arbitrage, or stat-arb, and they can be traded by holding positions for a few days, as he suggests, or for milliseconds as implemented by the big investment houses. They include all forms of stat-arb trading, from spreads to yield-curve trading to program trading, and from the simplest pairs trade to large-scale market neutral strategies. Kaufman covers each one in detail, ultimately showing you how to change the shape of your risk and drastically increase your probability of profiting under any market conditions. With his decades of experience in almost every type of market, Kaufman’s guidance, strategies, and lessons will be a welcome addition to the trading literature for professional and serious individual traders for years to come.A companion website includes spreadsheets to perform the calculations found in the book, including those for pairs trading, risk-adjusted spreads, cross-market trading, traditional market neutral trading, and other |

An Introduction to High-Frequency Finance $118 Liquid markets generate hundreds or thousands of ticks (the minimum change in price a security can have, either up or down) every business day. Data vendors such as Reuters transmit more than 275,000 prices per day for foreign exchange spot rates alone. Thus, high-frequency data can be a fundamental object of study, as traders make decisions by observing high-frequency or tick-by-tick data. Yet most studies published in financial literature deal with low frequency, regularly spaced data. For a variety of reasons, high-frequency data are becoming a way for understanding market microstructure. This book discusses the best mathematical models and tools for dealing with such vast amounts of data. This book provides a framework for the analysis, modeling, and inference of high frequency financial time series. With particular emphasis on foreign exchange markets, as well as currency, interest rate, and bond futures markets, this unified view of high frequency time series methods investigates the price formation process and concludes by reviewing techniques for constructing systematic trading models for financial assets. |

An enquiry whether the Christian religion is of any benefit, or only a useless commodity to a trading nation. $11.54 The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press.
